No Daddy Lane

She lives on the corner of ‘No Daddy Lane’
Everyday for her is exactly the same
Three screaming kids with no father is sight
Is it no wonder that she cries herself to sleep every night?

She dropped out of school when the first boy looked her way

He got her pregnant but he didn’t stay
So she spends her time wandering from man to man
Looking for love the only way that she can

She gets a government handout twelve times a year

That her new boyfriend squanders on beer
When he drinks too much he flies into a rage
So she calls up the cops who stick him in a cage

A few weeks later he’s back out on the street

And she’s there to meet him cause he’s ever so sweet
To her and the kids without a beer in his hand
And it doesn’t hurt either that he used to be in a band

He says he’ll be good but they both know it won’t last

He always reverts to the way that he was in the past
It starts with a beer and then two or three more
Then out of the blue he calls her a whore

She starts to cry and the kids start to scream

Cause it’s always round this time that he starts getting mean
He throws the first punch and the second one too
Cause that’s what his daddy always taught him to do

She lives on the corner of ‘No Daddy Lane’

Everyday for her is exactly the same
Three screaming kids with no father in sight
And a boyfriend she no longer has the strength to fight
